New changes to MailChimp Reports

30 May

I’ve written in the past about email list development and it’s definitely one of the most important things you need to have on your website today.  With such a high average return on investment it’s no wonder why many businesses use this form of advertising to promote their business.  MailChimp offers its service of email list development and it’s a great tool that I personally use.  Recently they’ve made some changes to their GUI making it easier to track new subscribers to your website.  Have a look…

What exactly are squeeze pages?

17 Dec

If you are online today then chances are you are already using what are affectionate known as “squeeze pages” and you may not even know it.  If you market your business using a website then you’ve probably got a way of collecting email addresses, names, contact information and things of this nature.

The term “squeeze page” actually refers to the action that a visitor to your website makes by giving you their name and contact information (usually an email address and/or phone numbers).  This is also referred to as a “name squeeze page”.

Effective squeeze pages can help you build your lead generation efforts; targeted and highly profitable emails list and gather detailed information about your visitors.  Really there a lot of different reasons and ways to use a squeeze page in your website that can benefit and add value to the business you are running online.  Now that we’ve covered exactly what a squeeze page is the next thing that is important to discuss is what takes a good squeeze page and makes it great because the proof is in the results and squeeze pages are NOT exempt from this.

What makes a good squeeze page a great squeeze page?

  • Easy and uncluttered to navigate – You need to be clear about what you want people to do when they come to your website and having a solid user experience in place can only help the success of your squeeze page for converting visitors.  If you put in too much information you may only end up confusing your visitors which can lead to fewer conversions for your email marketing list.  Leaving an easy to navigate squeeze page that is not cluttered up with lots of information helps people to focus on what the true purpose of your squeeze page is offering and allows them to not feel overwhelmed with too much information like what you normally see is a standard sales page; you know!?… Those pesky and sometimes long-winded web pages used to sell the latest and greatest in information products that you could scroll threw for days and never reach the bottom of the page.
  • Design that gets some real attention – Getting attention is a big factor in the overall success of a squeeze page but how do get your visitor’s attention?  Focusing on writing a strong headline to “hook” your website visitors can only help you squeeze their names so make sure that the headline is savvy and speaks to your audience.  If your product or service is beneficial to your visitors then they will be back for more.
  • Testing your squeeze page – When I say “testing” I mean running a series of tests to check and see if different content, fonts, colors, brand messages or pretty much anything associated with the appearance and functionality of the squeeze page increases or decreases the success of the page in the number of conversions related to the number of visitors.  The only way to really know what is happening is to test and measure what is happening on your web pages.  This leads me to my third and final point…
  • Measure your squeeze pages – I personally spend time measuring the success of articles on SpicyWebDesigners.com and checking where and how people are accessing the content on the site.  With a squeeze page you are able to measure the content, signups and any user events (example. “Playing a video”) using a web analytics platform.  Doing this allows you to make informed decisions off of what is happening on your website.  It’s much better than making decisions in the dark and less costly as well.

You may remember a few weeks ago when I reviewed the “Squeeze Theme” by Unique Blog Designs which is a premium WordPress theme that allows people to use their WordPress website to squeeze more names and information from visitors using a very simple and intuitive interface.  It’s definitely worth a look at if you haven’t read the review or checked out this WordPress Theme

squeezepages101-ebook

The team behind Unique Blog Designs also put together a guide to Squeeze pages called “Squeeze Pages 101” which is very detailed covering everything from the importance of building an email list, why squeeze page based sites perform better and lots of other important information about using squeeze pages in your online business and on your website.

A squeeze page, when used correctly, can allow you to convert more people into your email list building efforts and gives you the added ability to market back to people who visited your website, gave you there contact information and their permission to contact them and left.  After all, if they were interested enough to sign up in the first place they will also probably be interested to hear from you again and in time you can turn them into paying customers.

Product Review: Squeeze Theme from Unique Blog Designs

1 Dec

Every once in a while a theme comes along that isn’t really a theme. It’s really just awesome. Squeeze Theme from the creators of unique blog designs got together and did an interesting job of creating the concept of a “squeeze page” into an entire theme.

For those of you who are new to the term “Squeeze Page” it’s a web page that collects information from the visiting audience where the information collected is used for follow up marketing. Signs that you’ve created or are looking at a quality squeeze page are that success stories help the prospect (visitor) complete a buying decision. Another top characteristic is that great squeeze pages have is that they distract a visitor (aka “a prospect”) keeping them on page longer using a video and a compelling story to supply their information, usually a name and an email address.

Now getting back to the Squeeze Theme. Now that we know what a squeeze page is we are able to see the Squeeze Theme for what it really is.

Things that I really like about SqueezeTheme

A clean, professional layout – This theme makes great use of space and even though if you buy this particular theme and customize it; it is very well structured and allows you to get things up and running very fast.

It’s all about the “Squeeze”! – In online marketing, it’s all about getting your customers to convert and give you their information so that you can market to them more effectively and increase conversion rates. I’ve seen 4 templates that the SqueezeTheme has in its arsenal and I am happily surprised by them all. Sometimes you buy a website theme that’s a rip off but that’s NOT the case with SqueezeTheme

Enough resources to help even the most novice web designer or internet marketer – Another cool thing that Unique Blog Designs did when they created this theme is that they offer a “Resource Center” allowing you to grab tutorials and enhance the template that much further. This is definitely a big selling point that most website template and theme creators miss so I am glad to see it hear

Testing All Squeeze Pages 1, 2, 3! – Another big point to make about this website theme is the fact that you can make and deploy multiple squeeze pages, test them and improve them. This is a great thing that Unique Blog designs decided to focus on because as any internet marketer can attest to its all about testing to increase conversions and SqueezeTheme gets a big “A+” for remembering and implementing this concept into this theme.

Solid Browser Compatibility – I don’t say this often enough but the SqueezeTheme passed my expectations when I viewed it using Google Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer. It’s very very safe for human consumption (and to use of course).

Things that I don’t like about SqueezeTheme

There really isn’t anything that I don’t like about this particular theme. One word of caution that I can think of is that if you are new to web design and internet marketing some of the features might be a waste for the money if you aren’t prepared to learn something new.

4 reasons to buy the SqueezeTheme

The Squeeze theme comes with a variety of tools including a number of different templates to help you create squeeze pages.  Here are 4 different templates that the Squeeze Theme offers.

Costs

The Squeeze Theme is a little more costly than your average website theme, selling for $147 (Currently they’ve got it on sale for $97 dollars). There doesn’t seem to be any developer license costs to worry about but they make up for it with a higher cost per theme sale. The price is definitely worth it to have a system to squeeze names and grow your online business.

Why Email List Building is so lucrative!

29 Nov

Email marketing is the hidden gold that a lot of websites never ever take advantage of and the only question that I have is “Why?” email is one of the least expensive ways to marketing yourself so whether you are running a personal blog or a corporate website it doesn’t make sense NOT to collect emails and build your email list. There are a lot of service providers who offer email marketing services such as MailChimp, Aweber and GetResponse but more importantly is the concept of email list building. Email marketing is a form of what is known as “Direct Marketing” because it involves directly marketing towards potential customers.

One very interesting statistic about email marketing is that for every dollar spent on email marketing the average return on investment (ROI) is $57.25 (according to the Direct Marketing Association and Jupiter Research Inc.). That means that for every dollar that you spend on email marketing you can expect an average of $57.25 back in your pocket. All other types of online non-email marketing don’t even come close to this in terms of return on investment which is $22.52 ROI on every dollar spent.

Opting In

Currently the biggest problem with email marketing and advertising is that pesky four letter word “SPAM”. I am sure that you hate it as much as I do and for some reason we all keep on receiving it in our inboxes, every day, more and more SPAM. When you build your email marketing list the concept of “opting-in” is important. Opt-in email marketing is a type of permission marketing where the person who signs up receives an email asking them to click a link and verify themselves. This is a sort of handshake protocol and this is something that I do with email marketing and email list building on SpicyWebDesigners.com to avoid the problem of spamming anyone unnecessarily. Once you’ve got this in place on your website and you start collecting email addresses and information you can rest assured that when you send out an email to your email list that no one will complain about receiving SPAM.

When else does email marketing involve?

For you to get started with email marketing you are going to need a few things to be able to do it successfully.

Email List Building Software – You can use any number of email marketing software vendors including MailChimp (This is the one that I personally use), Aweber, GetResponse and the list goes on. These vendors provide a number of tools from online form creation to simply manually updating your email list with confirmed email addresses and names (Make sure that you ask whomever you add to your email marketing list before you do; if you don’t this is seen as SPAMMING). The great thing about these vendors is that they follow the CAN-SPAM act that was passed to protect email marketers and people from being spammed. The pricing of the services and software offered to help you build your email marketing list does vary from vendor to vendor so you will need to do your homework. As I said before I use MailChimp to build email lists and I chose this particular email list building and marketing software because of its integration capabilities, its API and the fact that I can integrate Google Analytics to track the success of email blasts.

Email Capture Forms – If you are running a website and building an email list then you are going to need to capture those names using a form. Having your visitors complete the action of signing up to your email list is very important if you are building email lists… its life and death actually. Think about it, if no one signs up to your email list how are you ever going to be able to effectively use email marketing to promote things happening on your website, capture those visitors who came to your website once and never returned or develop this particular medium into a reliable source of leads and eventual customers.

Content – Some professional email marketers use content to “Squeeze” names out of their visitors. As you can imagine this is very hard to do without some well written content whether it’s an excellent offer or an exclusive guide. You need something that is going to make your visitors think “Hey, I really want that!” or “You mean all I have to do is sign up to your email list to receive that… Done!”

Something to sell! – For the guys and gals out there who are looking to use email marketing to sell then having something to sell is also important. If you are just sending out email blasts to share information then this may not be as important for you. If you’ve developed your own product then you may want to promote it during an email campaign however if you don’t have your own products you are not completely out of luck. It is entirely to become an affiliate of someone else’s successful product and with affiliate programs paying between 10% and 50% per sale it’s possible to do very well using this method of marketing. This is also the reason why email marketing is so lucrative compared to all other forms of online marketing. Let me give you a brief example of what I’m talking about here…

You Sell 20 products using an affiliate marketing program

Profit per sale is $25

Email marketing costs are $30 per month for up to 2500 Subscribers

Total profit is $500 – $30 = $470.00

Total ROI is 1666.67%

There is a lot of information written on the subject of email marketing, tons actually, and depending your goals when email marketing here are a few sources of further information that may help you to better understand its use in your website, online business, blog or web presence…
